2020/21 Reopening Plainedge Schools
A plan to safely reopen schools.
We Are Reopening Full-Time In-Person Instruction Beginning March 1, 2021
Rev. February 19, 2021
Introduction
Dear Plainedge Community,
Welcome to our latest version of our Reopening Plan for Grades 6-12. We began our process last September by following the Department of Health and New York State Education Guidelines. This is an outline of what can be expected as we reopen our school buildings.
Safety: We have prioritized the safety of all staff and students when making decisions.
Expert Advice: All of our decisions are anchored to expert advice, particularly as it applies to safety. We must and will adhere to the State and Local guidelines. We have added advice that has been shared by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
Flexibility: We have heard the feedback from our community for the need for our students to predominately return to our school buildings. We know there are families that will have extenuating circumstances in sending children back to school in September. The District will work with those families individually to accommodate all students who are unable to return due to health related issues, as necessary. These models are drafts of the plans we are considering to support the social, emotional and academic growth of our Plainedge students.
State & School Guidelines: We are building models of flexibility that will at all times comply with state and local guidelines. We are presenting three models for returning to the Elementary School, Middle School and the High School.
The models that will be implemented will be dictated by the circumstances of the pandemic as it impacts Nassau County throughout the year.
